Radford Basketball

Radford 68 Presbyterian 54

The Radford Universtiy Mens basketball team recieved its first win of the season with a 68-54 decision over the Presbyterian Blue Hose last night in front of 2.600 Highlander supporters at the Deadmon Center.

This was the first win for new first year head coach Brad Greenberg (brother of current VT mens coach Seth Greenberg) . "The crowd had a tremendous impact on the game and they motivated our players," Greenberg said. "It was fantastic to have so many students come out and support the team. I was overwhelmed and I hope they had a wonderful evening and I hope they come back for more of our games."

Radford was led by Junior Martell McDuffy who lead all scores with a game high 21 points. Sophmore Amir Johnson recorded a double-double in the win with 11 points and a career high 10 assists for the Highlanders.

“We played really hard for 40 minutes. I think a lot of guys had a big impact on the game,” Greenberg said. “I think it was nice to see the guys that got in work hard and they got rewarded for it.”

The Blue Hose from Presbyterian shot 8-13 from behind the arc in the first half to lead 33-29 at the break. Radford fought back in the second half with a 12-0 run midway through the period to put the Highlanders up by 11, with them never looking back.

“It is a cool feeling,” Greenberg said of his first win. “I don’t have enough coach talk in me to say otherwise. I hope to feel like that more often.”

The win makes Radford 1-2 on this young season. Their next game will be at home Saturday night against Big South foe Gardner Webb who beat Kentucy at Rupp Arena last week 84-68. Tipoff will be at 7 pm at the Deadmon Center.
